To celebrate homecoming, the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) Chorale and Madrigals will present a choral concert titled “Music and Memories” on Sat., Oct. 4, 2014, at 4:00 p.m. in the Church of the Immaculate Conception.
Alumnae of the Chorale and Madrigals will join current students for several of the songs, and Sister Marie Brendan Harvey, who directed the choirs from 1952-1980 and started the Madrigals in 1958, will be featured as a guest conductor for two pieces.
“Sister Marie Brendan laid the foundation for the current state of choral music at SMWC. She created an audition ensemble, the Madrigals, and established a standard for all successive choirs to live up to,” states Michael Boswell, SMWC associate professor of music and director of the Chorale and Madrigals. “To have her come back and conduct in the Church of the Immaculate Conception again will be extremely special for all involved and those witnessing it! It’s a great way for us to not only talk about honoring our history but to actually do it.”
The concert will include a variety of pieces within the theme “Music and Memories.” The Madrigals will sing a few pieces from Sister Cecilia Clare Bocard’s “A Cycle of Psalms” that Sister Marie Brendan Harvey actually premiered in 1956. Additionally, the alumnae and current students will perform several pieces that have significance to the College and Sister Marie Brendan Harvey.
“It will be a very meaningful experience for all participating and in attendance,” states Boswell.
The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Michael Boswell at or (812) 535-5017.
