Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) will celebrate Spirit Week beginning Monday, October 2, and culminating with Homecoming on Saturday, October 7, with events and activities on campus.
Spirit Week is a tradition at SMWC, where teams of students participate in events during the week, accumulating points for each team member. The teams are competing for the coveted Homecoming Cup, presented each year to the team with the most points. The Homecoming Cup will be awarded to the winning team at halftime of the SMWC Sprint Football Homecoming game against Bellarmine University. The number of teams competing this year will likely be the most in the history of the Homecoming Cup competition.
Spirit Week at a Glance:
Monday’s theme: Class Age
- Window Painting Contest starts in Campus Life in the Lower Level of Le Fer Hall at 8 a.m.
- Spirit Week Kickoff in the Knoerle Center Main Gym at 4 p.m. – Doors open at 3:45 p.m.
- Bingo Night starts in the McMahon Ballroom in Le Fer Hall at 7 p.m.
Tuesday’s theme: Futuristic/Sci-Fi
- Movie Night showing Monster House in the Le Fer Sunken Gardens at 8 p.m.
Wednesday’s theme: Superheroes vs. Villains
- Pumpkin painting sponsored by Service 31 in the Oakley Student Center (OSC) from noon to 1 p.m.
- Yard pong sponsored by Future Business Leaders of America in the OSC from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
- Cookie decorating sponsored by the Sophomore-Freshman Leadership Council in the OSC from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
- Cornhole tournament, bonfire and lantern decorating sponsored by the Indiana Student Educational Association, the Student Senate and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at the Butler Outdoor Classroom from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Thursday’s theme: Color Palette Day – Dress in solid colors
- Widow painting will be completed at noon and voting will be until 5 p.m.
- Glow Run at 8 p.m. with registration in the lobby of Le Fer Hall. Participants will receive a free tee-shirt will supplies last. Kona Ice Truck will offer frozen treats from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Friday theme: SMWC Attire – Show your school spirit!
- Annual Bed Races on The Avenue at 4 p.m.
- Announce the winner of the Window Painting Contest
Saturday: Pomeroy Pride Homecoming 2023
- Equine Hunt Seat horse show at 9 a.m. at the Outdoor Equine Arena
- Alumni Softball game at the SMWC Softball Field at 10 a.m.
- Homecoming Activities Tent in the Les Bois lawn from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Sign Decorating at noon in front of Le Fer Hall
- SMWC Choir and Band Concert in the Cecilian Auditorium in the Conservatory of Music at 1 p.m.
- Ring Centennial Sculpture Dedication in the 1962 Ring Garden on The Avenue in front of Le Fer Hall at 2:15 p.m.
- Sprint Football Homecoming game with the Pomeroys facing Bellarmine University at Jay Barrett Field at West Vigo High School at 4 p.m. – Gates open at 2:30 p.m.
- Homecoming Porch Dance in Le Fer Hall from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The winning team of the Homecoming Cup will be announced at halftime of the football game, and the cup will be filled with prizes for the winning team members in addition to the bragging rights that the team will enjoy for the upcoming year.
