Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) has announced that Woods Giving Day (WGD) will be on Tuesday, February 4. WGD is the College’s single largest fundraising event and has raised more than $1.7 million in the past nine years, and in 2023, the day resulted in 1,090 donations.
The goal for WGD-X, the 10th edition, is 1200 donors and $1 million. These goals are thanks to an early start challenge match from several generous donors.
When the College reaches 600 donors by January 31, Mary Kay Campbell Watson ’69 and Al Watson have teamed with Nancy Payonk ’81 to donate $75,000. Anita Tiberi McMahon ’61 will donate $250,000 when the College reaches $500,000 in early giving by January 31.
Catherine Mickey Saunders ’98, vice president for advancement, is excited about WGD-X. “I am excited by the growth of Woods Giving Day. I am always amazed and grateful for the generosity of our alumni and friends. This year will undoubtedly be our most successful Woods Giving Day breaking all of our records!”
On February 4, students, staff and faculty will gather in the Woods Student Center in the Rooney Center to call donors and friends. Giving challenges will be promoted to achieve matching donations and to inspire even more philanthropic support. Social media will be full of updates and fun stories about students and the College.
Woods Giving Day socks are back by popular demand. Donors of $50 or more will receive a unique pair of limited-edition socks while supplies last. This year’s design commemorates the 10th anniversary of this special day of giving to SMWC.
“We encourage donors to help us raise awareness about WGD-X and SMWC by sharing the College’s social posts and reaching out to classmates, friends and family. We are blessed by our engaged base of donors and alumni who truly care about The Woods and today’s students,” said Saunders. “It is a fun day, and it really does bring our Woods community together.”
