Time flies when you’re having fun! The 2023 fall semester was one to remember. This semester consisted of many memories, from athletic events to beloved traditions like the Acorn Ceremony and Senior Dinner. As the semester winds down and the Holiday season continues, students have one final box to check on their to-do lists – final exams! At SMWC, we know it can be challenging to find your groove when preparing for finals week. Check out some tips to help you soar through the week into Christmas break!
1. Map it out
Although to-do lists sound daunting, they often help when organizing and prepping for finals. Whether you’re a pen-and-paper person or you prefer digital lists, there are many ways you can map out your tasks, final assignments and topics you need to review for your final exams.
2. Don’t cram! Do the math
Before hitting the books, be sure to assess your current grades. Ask yourself, “What class have I been struggling with this semester?” Calculate what course grades you want to end up with at the end of the semester and see which classes may need more focus throughout your study periods.
3. Study with a buddy!
Studying with a peer can hold you accountable, keep you motivated and expose you to different ideas and thoughts on a course topic. From comparing course notes to sharing different study tips, the buddy system might be the perfect fit for you. Places on campus like The 1840, the Woods Café and the Learning Resource Center serve as excellent places to study with a friend or a group.
4. Stay healthy and active
Studying inside for hours can be draining. Be sure to go for a short walk outside and hit the gym. Maintaining a healthy diet will help you be productive in your study sessions.
5. Take a break!
Hitting the books is essential but taking time for yourself is also vital. Study breaks are needed, especially when preparing for final exams. Grabbing coffee with a friend or just relaxing for a short time may be just what you need to ace that final!
