Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) ranks within the top 25 the Best Regional Colleges in the Midwest by U.S. News & World Report in its newly released 2016 Best Colleges guidebook. SMWC ranks 21 of 363 colleges in the Midwest category. For the eighth consecutive year, SMWC has been recognized in this annual guide.
According to the selection methodology, the regional colleges focus almost entirely on the undergraduate experience and offer a broad range of programs in the liberal arts and in fields such as business, nursing and education.
“Our commitment to meeting the needs of today’s learners is behind every decision we make,” said Dottie King, Ph.D., president of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. “This national recognition is a reflection of that deep commitment by our faculty and staff who engage our students in academics, faith and service.
SMWC was recognized for having one of the highest percentages of classes under 20 students at 95 percent and 35 percent of freshmen were in the top 25 percent of their high school classes. With a low faculty-to-student ratio at 8:1, opportunities for faculty-student research, interaction and collaboration are one of the hallmarks of a Woods education.
