The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) campus is bustling with the arrival of the incoming campus freshmen. SMWC welcomed about 100 freshmen from 14 states.
Among them are roommates Hannah Miller, from Greenwood, Ind., and Sirima Rattanamanokron, from Louisville, Ky.
“I’m excited to be here and look forward to getting settled,” said Miller, a music therapy major.
Dottie King, president of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, extended a warm welcome to students as they began their new journey – a journey that will forever connect them to The Woods. “You will be different from this point because of how you will think and the relationships that you will develop,” explained King. “We [faculty, staff and students] will be different, too – because you are here and will make a difference in our community.”
Jennifer Thomas, a transfer student from Indianapolis, Ind., has a special connection with SMWC. Her mother, Cathy Schueth Thomas, is a 1988 graduate. “Mom allowed me to make my own decision about coming to The Woods,” Thomas said. “I can’t wait to get started.”
Cathy described what today means to her: “This is a special place for special women. I am very proud of Jennifer and happy that she will learn and grow here as I did.”
