Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) recently ranked top in the nation for Best Online Nursing Schools for 2015 by the Affordable Colleges Online, a leading resource for online learning and college affordability information. After evaluating hundreds of school on curriculum, cost, accessibility and resources, Affordable Colleges Online chose SMWC as fourteenth in the nation.

“The nursing faculty at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College are delighted about the exceptional ranking of our online nursing program,” states Marcia Miller, Ph.D., R.N., professor and department chair of nursing at SMWC.

In place for just over a year, the RN to BSN program at The Woods gives men and women who hold an associate’s degree and nursing license the opportunity to complete a bachelor’s degree in nursing.

“Students tell us that what they enjoy most about our online courses include available content delivery, creative projects and the small class size,” explains Miller. “Also, an added strength of the program is personalized academic advising and support.”

SMWC’s RN to BSN program prepares students to lead people or projects in the healthcare field by encouraging them to explore leadership and management theories and principles and their application to the nursing practice in the provision of healthcare.

“This program gives our students the skills to transform healthcare through leadership and evidence-based practice,” states Miller. “It is a joy to work with our online students.”

The courses are fully online and do not require any residency periods. Unlike other online nursing programs, SMWC’s program is based upon a cohort model, which means that students are part of a group of RNs who progress through the program together. Additionally, a capstone practicum allows students to complete clinical hours at the student’s current employment setting or a setting of their choice.
